Course Description and Goals:
The purpose of this course is to learn techniques of high-level scientific computing, specifically in solving mathematical problems. The languages and packages we will use include but are not limited to python (including the NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, Matplotlib packages), SageMath, MATLAB, and Scilab.

Computer:
We will use the computer and the web in this class. We will use various software platforms that are freely available.

References:
There will be no textbook used for the course, but students may find the following references useful. They are freely available, either online in general or downloadable through the TCU Library's website.

Grading:

The final grade for this course will be determined as follows:

Minilabs / Quizzes 50%
Final Project (including drafts) 50%

Your weighted course average x determined by your scores and the percentages above will be used to determine the final grade G(x) by the table below:

x in implies G(x) is
[92,∞) A
[90,92) A-
[88,90) B+
[82,88) B
[80,82) B-
[78,80) C+
[70,78) C
[0,70) F
Attendance and Projects: Attendance is expected at all meetings. Each project is assigned on the web site, due at midnight of the day it is listed, through email. Due to some security restrictions on email, you may have to send files as txt files (changing the extensions). Due dates are firm. Some amount of collaboration is encouraged, but the projects you turn in should reflect your personal preparation.

The last day to withdraw from the class is July 17. The last day to select the Pass/No Credit option is July 18.
