Textbook:
It is linked from the course website. The Chapters we will discuss primarily in this course are Chapters 8 through 12.

Course Description and Goals:
The purpose of this course is the understanding of vector spaces and bases, linear transformations and operators, the Jordan canonical form of a matrix, inner products, Hermitian and unitary operators, matrix decompositions and various numerical linear algebra topics, such as Fourier series and transforms, numerical approximations to differential equation solutions, and Markov processes.

Computer:
We will use the computer and the web in this class, including video conferencing and mathematical software that is available online. The final project will have programming components.

Grading:

The final grade for this course will be determined as follows:

Homework 40%
Midterm 25% date TBD
Final Project 35% due date TBD

Your weighted course average x determined by your scores and the percentages above will be used to determine the final grade G(x) by the table below:

x in implies G(x) is
[92,∞) A
[90,92) A-
[88,90) B+
[82,88) B
[80,82) B-
[78,80) C+
[70,78) C
[0,70) F
Attendance and Homework: Your attendance is expected at all class meetings. Homework is assigned on the web site, due at 11:59 pm by email on the calendar date where it is posted. Homework questions will be graded strictly every day, with nearly perfect solutions receiving 9/10 or 10/10 points, solutions with one mathematical error 7/10, and solutions with more than one mathematical error 0/10 or 1/10. Students will be allowed to resubmit solutions within 2 weeks of the due date.

The last day to withdraw from the class is July 17. The last day to select the Pass/No Credit option is July 18.

Disabilities Statement: Texas Christian University complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 regarding students with disabilities. Eligible students seeking accommodations should contact the Coordinator of Student Disabilities Services in the Center for Academic Services located in Sadler Hall, 1010. Accommodations are not retroactive, therefore, students should contact the Coordinator as soon as possible in the term for which they are seeking accommodations. Further information can be obtained from the Center for Academic Services, TCU Box 297710, Fort Worth, TX 76129, or at (817) 257-6567.

Attendance Policy: The university attendance policy states that regular and punctual class attendance is essential and that no assigned work is excused because of absence, no matter what the cause.
