Textbook:
It is linked from the course website.
The Chapters we will discuss primarily in this course are
Chapters 8 through 12.
Course Description and Goals:
The purpose of this course is the understanding of vector spaces and bases, linear
transformations and operators, the Jordan canonical form of a matrix, inner products,
Hermitian and unitary operators, matrix decompositions
and various numerical linear algebra topics, such as
Fourier series and transforms, numerical approximations to differential equation solutions,
and Markov processes.
Computer:
We will use the computer and the web
in this class, including video conferencing and mathematical software
that is available online.
The final project will have programming components.
The final grade for this course will be determined as follows:
Homework | 40% | |
Midterm | 25% | date TBD |
Final Project | 35% | due date TBD |
Your weighted course average x determined by your scores and the percentages above will be used to determine the final grade G(x) by the table below:
x in | implies G(x) is |
[92,∞) | A |
[90,92) | A- |
[88,90) | B+ |
[82,88) | B |
[80,82) | B- |
[78,80) | C+ |
[70,78) | C |
[0,70) | F |
