Textbook:
Mathematics with Applications, Fourth Custom Edition for TCU, by
Lial, Hungerford, Holcomb, and Mullins.
These book is available for
purchase from TCU Bookstore. If you wish, you can buy instead Mathematics with Applications in the Management, Natural, and Social Sciences, Eleventh Edition, by
Lial, Hungerford, Holcomb, and Mullins. The two textbooks are fully compatible.
Prerequisites:
MATH 10023 or two years of high school algebra.
Course Description:
In this course, we will learn basics of polynomial, rational, exponential
and logarithmic functions. This knowledge will help you to succeed in
Applied Calculus class.
Calculator/Computer:
You will need a calculator that has logarithm and exponential function keys.
TI-84 or TI-83 are recommended calculators.
Grading:
The final grade for this course will be determined as follows.

- Homework: will be assigned on the web site but not collected or graded. You need to do homework in order to perform well on quizzes or tests.
- Quizzes: will be given each class period. These quizzes cover fundamental skills that are needed to understand the material. If you are absent or late on the day of a quiz and do not have an official university excuse, you will receive a zero on the quiz.
Attendance Policy: The university attendance policy states that regular and punctual class attendance is essential and that no assigned work is excused because of absence, no matter what the cause. If you have no more than one unexcused absense, I will add an extra 3 points to your final class average.
