Class web page:
Class web page is available at the address
http://faculty.tcu.edu/prokhor/fourier.html, it contains links to the
syllabus and homework assignments.
Textbook:
Albert Boggess and Francis J. Narcowich A First Course in wavelets
with Fourier Analysis, 2nd ed.,
Wiley.
Prerequisites:
Math 30224, 30613, and 30524, both with C- or better
Course Description and Goals:
Fourier series and Fourier transform, discrete Fourier transform and numerical methods, convolution, signal processing, filtering, wavelet analysis.
Calculator/Computer:
We will occasionally use a graphing calculator, a computer, and the web
in this class. You will sometimes be allowed to use a graphing calculator
on
tests, but not one that does symbolic algebra. Laptops, iPads, Netbooks, Cell phones, PDA's and iPod-type devices
are not allowed during class, unless they are explicitly used for taking notes.
They must be silent and put away.
Grading:
The final grade for this course will be determined as follows.
Homework | 25% | |
Test #1 | 20% | Wed, October 4 |
Test #2 | 20% | Wednesday, November 15 |
Cumulative Final Exam | 35% | Monday, Dec 11, 6-8:30 pm |
Your weighted course average x determined by your scores and the percentages above will be used to determine the final grade as specified in the table.
|
Note that only undergraduates have the possibility of
the "D" grade. Example of grading calculation:
|
- Homework: will be assigned on the web site, due in the beginning of each class period. No late homework will be accepted, unless I give you an extension due to an official university excuse, illness, or serious family emergency. You may work together on the homework, but the paper you turn in should reflect your personal preparation. Do not copy, write your own solutions. I recommend that you do as much homework as possible completely on your own.
- The last day to withdraw from the class is November 10. The last day to select the Pass/No Credit option is November 13.
- Graduate students taking MATH 60553 will be assigned additional homework and additional exam work.
Attendance Policy: The university attendance policy states that regular and punctual class attendance is essential and that no assigned work is excused because of absence, no matter what the cause.
