Prerequisites:
You should have a firm understanding of college algebra and precalculus.
You should have credit for MATH 10524 with C- or better.
Course Description:
In this course you will be learning about integrals and their applications
to finding areas and volumes. The techniques of integration will include
integration by parts, trigonometric integrals and trig substitution, and partial fractions.
In addition we will cover power series including geometric series, standard tests for convergence, radius of convergence,
Taylor series and integration/differentiation of series.
Calculator/Computer:
We will occasionally use a graphing calculator, the computer and the web
in this class. You will sometimes be allowed to use a graphing calculator on
tests, but not one that does symbolic algebra.
Laptops, Netbooks, Cell phones, PDA's and iPod-type devices are not allowed during class. They must be silent and put away.
Grading:
The final grade for this course will be determined as follows.
Homework and Quizzes (counted together) | 16% | |

Test #2 | 18% | Fri, March 9 |
Test #3 | 18% | Fri, April 13 |
Cumulative Final Exam | 30% | Tue, May 8, 11:30-2 |
Your weighted course average x determined by your scores and the percentages above will be used to determine the final grade as specified in the table.
|
Note that only undergraduates have the possibility of
the "D" grade. Example of grading calculation:
|
- Homework: assigned on the web site, due at the beginning of each class period. No late homework will be accepted. You are encouraged to work together on the homework, but the paper you turn in should reflect your personal preparation. In some cases, the homework may include material that is not covered in the lectures.
- Quizzes: will be given frequently. The quizzes might cover definitions, statements, and typical problems that are needed to understand the material. If you miss a quiz due to absence it will count as a zero, except in cases of excused absence (these require a note from Campus Life or documented participation in university activities).
- The last day to withdraw from the class is Thursday, March 15.
