Textbook:
Ron Larson, David Favlo Elementary Linear Algebra, 6th ed., Brooks/ Cole 2010.

Prerequisites:
You should have a firm understanding of college algebra. Some exposure to vectors and matrices will be useul. You should have taken MATH 10524 and either MATH 20123 or MATH 20524

Course Description:
In this course, we will learn the basics of vector spaces, linear independence, bases, and theory of dimension. We will study linear mappings, matrices, determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization. In the text, we will cover most of Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Calculator/Computer:
We will occasionally use a graphing calculator, the computer and the web in this class. You will sometimes be allowed to use a graphing calculator on tests, but not one that does symbolic algebra.

Grading:

The final grade for this course will be determined as follows.
Homework / Quizzes 20%
Test #1 20% Tue, Feb. 22
Test #2 20% Tue, March 29
Cumulative Final Exam 40% Tue, May 3, 8-10:30 am

Your weighted course average x determined by your scores and the percentages above will be used to determine the final grade as specified in the table.
x in Grade
[92,∞) A
[90,92) A-
[88,90) B+
[82,88) B
[80,82) B-
[78,80) C+
[70,78) C
[0,70) D or F
Note that only undergraduates have the possibility of the "D" grade.
